Goals and Activities
From MathClub
Major Events
We currently have one major event planned for the 2007-2008 year. This is the Princeton Math Competition 2007, to be held on Saturday, November 10, 2007. The contest is intended for high school students across the country, but younger, home-schooled, and foreign students are welcome as well.
Community Activities
We plan on developing some community outreach activities, mainly focusing on helping local students who are struggling with mathematics and encouraging the interest of those who excel. We hope to work with the MATHCOUNTS organization in this endeavor. We will also contact Princeton's existing community service organizations to find out whether they already have projects to which we could contribute.
University Activities
The Math Club has a variety of internal University activities of various types.
We will offer a practice session for the William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition in the fall before the contest occurs.
We will introduce underclassmen to the world of mathematics and our own math department's professors and resources through such events as the Meet the Professors series and the student Math Talks.
We will encourage students in majors other than math to participate in our activities and learn a little about the world of mathematics, even if it is not their main interest. We may offer more (mathematically) accessible events than the aforementioned with this in mind.
We will offer occasional social activities, such as the Pi Day celebration, so that even the most mathematical minds will have an opportunity to relax.
We will periodically offer a free class in LaTeX to all university students.
